Swipe & Deploy

Whether you are visiting a theme park, zoo or any other type of visitor attraction, there’s usually some form of map that customers can download from the attraction’s website, that details how they can get around on the day.

These maps are usually flat PDF files or printed ones that you can view while walking around the venue.

There’s not necessarily a problem with these, as they serve their purpose, and if you’ve invested in the design, they can usually deliver a decent brand experience. However, they are not usually overly memorable or engaging.

Make Your Map Interactive

So whilst browsing the internet this week, I came across a website called Exploring Prespa.

The website is a game as well as a guide that helps kids learn about the animals and plants that can be found around the lakes, along with other facts about Prespa (which I believe is in Greece.)

Prespa Is Not A Map

The website is nothing like a PDF map or a printed guide, showing the attractions of a theme park. But, it could be!

Picture an attraction map, with the various attractions and points of interest at a venue, designed in a similar illustrative style put into an interactive website like Prespa.

You could drag the cursor around the screen and click on the elements to discover more about them. This could be anything from height restrictions, show times, and average wait times, to interesting facts or virtual tour guide-type material.

If you had an animal attraction, maybe the animals could animate and the digital visitors could learn facts about the animals by interacting with them before they arrive on the day.

So What’s To Swipe & Deploy?

Today’s key takeaway is inspiration and an idea. Be inspired by Explore Prespa‘s engaging website and take it a step further by turning it into a map that could replace the industry standard PDF maps, and have your brand become an industry talking point.

You’ll probably still need the PDF map, as people have come to expect them, but you could introduce them to the interactive one.

That’s a wrap for Swipe & Deploy 061 this week. Join me next time where I will share another insight or inspiration piece from around the web.
