Website Design Process
Our collaborative process is delivered over five phases, with key milestones and stages during which client feedback or collaboration is required to proceed. To ensure a successful delivery, it is equally important to ensure that both parties collaborate at the allocated intervals.
Not every stage will apply to every project as every project is different, but typically these are the various steps we take to deliver exceptional digital experiences.

1.1 Discovery & Briefing Workshop
The first point of call is to have a website discovery and briefing workshop. We like to do this in the first instance, to ensure we’re getting the scope right, before moving onto quotes and proposals. These workshops, delivered via video conferencing, help us to understand the goals and website objectives, and to uncover requirements and functionality that written website briefs are often missing. We also take a look at your existing website.
1.2 Detailed Proposals
Our proposals cover everything we will do and everything we will not. Fixed scope means fixed cost. So you know that is the price you will pay, unless you choose to add anything out of scope.
1.3 Kickoff & Strategy & Planning Workshops
Then we'll kick off the web project, with a strategy and planning workshop. These workshops are for UX research, strategy and website planning. They bring together your key stakeholders, with our UX design and development experts.
2.1 Wireframing
The first activity in the planning stage is to design wireframes of the pages we will be creating. These will reflect the layout of each page type, and the placement of important features.
2.2 User Journey Prototyping
This is where we plan and prototype the various user journeys through your website, based on the personas and research.
2.3 Feedback & Approval
At this key milestone point, we will invite you to feedback on the visual designs, and approve when you are happy to proceed.
3.1 Multi-Device Design Visuals
This is where we will create a set of design visuals for multiple devices, based on the fact finding carried out in the discovery stage workshops, and the wireframes & prototypes created in the planning stage.
3.2 Feedback & Approval
At this key milestone point, we will invite you to feedback on the visual designs, and approve when you are happy to proceed.
3.3 Front End Development & Testing
This is where we build the frontend of your website. What your users will see and interact with. We carry out testing as we go.
3.4 Back End Development
Then it is onto creating the backend of your site. Where all the clever stuff happens, and where you will be able to manage your site from.
3.5 Content Population
Once front and backend are complete, we can move to populating the site with your content. Ready for full testing.
4.1 Full Browser & Device Testing
At this stage we perform extensive testing, to ensure your website performs optimally across a variety of web browsers and device types.
4.2 Customer Journey Testing
We will test and refine the user journeys through your site, ensuring paths to conversion, based on your user personas.
4.3 Advanced Testing
At this stage, we put your site through strenuous testing, making sure it is ready to be moved to the live environment.
4.4 Feedback & Approval
This is a key milestone stage, where you will provide feedback and amends, before approving once you are happy to proceed onto the deployment stage.
5.1 Training & Documentation
We want to make sure you feel in control of your new website. We will provide easy to access training videos, and ensure you have all of the documentation you require.
5.2 Analytics & Conversion Tracking
We will deploy your analytics solution and ensure all of your tracking is in place and functioning correctly.
5.3 Website Publication
At this stage, licences will be activated and your website will be pushed live.
5.4 Live User Journey & Backend Testing
We will carry out testing of your site's user journeys, and put the backend through its paces in the live environment.
5.5 Broken Link Checks & URL Redirects
Your new site will be crawled to ensure there are no broken links, and URL redirects will be carried out, to help maintain existing search rankings and backlinks.
Most of our projects tend to be redevelopment projects, so we’re highly experienced in retaining existing search rankings, migrating legacy content and developing new features to work with existing API integrations and third party systems.
Web Design Process FAQ’s
Website projects vary in length according to scope and complexity. We’ll be able to provide you with a realistic timeframe once we know the full scope of your project. But as a rough guide we’d say 2-3 months.
Yes. We tend to allow for 2 design revisions within every project. However, this can differ based on timeline allowance and requirements discussed within proposals.
We will provide you with a fixed fee based on the initial scope of your project. Should the project exceed the scope, or you request additional functionality outside of the original scope, extra time can be secured if required.
