Stay informed about the implications of Vimeo’s new plans and price increases, and how they may impact your website’s embedded videos if you use Vimeo.

If your business has a Vimeo account and embeds videos from your Vimeo on your website, your next account renewal could come as a nasty surprise. Since Bending Spoons bought Vimeo in November 2025, every legacy plan (Plus, Pro, Starter, Standard and Advanced) is being moved onto a new plan automatically at renewal. The only warning you may or may have already received is an email, about 30 days before your renewal date, which can easily go unseen in a busy inbox.

Some users have reported huge price increases, and accounts that Vimeo classes as ‘business use’ can be moved onto their much pricier Studio plan. Below we’ll explain what has changed, how to check whether you are impacted, what it means for the videos on your website, and some alternatives worth considering.

What Has Changed?

Vimeo has replaced its old range of plans with 2 tracks. There are 3 individual plans (Creator, Core & Professional) and a Studio plan for businesses. Legacy subscribers are being moved across to these new plans automatically when their next renewal comes around. They receive an email about 30 days before the renewal, but for many a business, a single email may go unseen in the chaos of a busy inbox.

The biggest change for website owners is managed storage, Public videos now get unlimited storage, but anything embeddable or private (which covers most videos used on a business website) gets a much smaller allowance.

PlanPrice (USD)Managed Storage (private/embeddable)Monthly BandwidthSeats
Free$03GB1TBN/A
Creator$9.50 per month50GB2TBN/A
CoreNot published300GB2TB1 (up to 3)
Professional$70 per month7TB2TB10 (up to 20)
StudioReported to be $400 per month, billed annually10TB36TB (per year)10 (up to 200)

UK prices may differ, so check your renewal email for the figure in pounds.

To put that in context, the old Starter plan included 2TB of storage. Its closest match from the new plans is Creator, which has 50GB of managed storage, so a library of embedded website videos could outgrow it quickly. Standard users (4TB, 5 seats) now sit in Core with 300GB and fewer seats.

The bigger shock to us was the Studio plan. Under Vimeo’s updated plan usage policy (June 2026), any account used by or for a company, team, nonprofit, or school, can be classed as business use and moved to Studio, regardless of how many seats it uses. For an account that was previously on the Advanced plan that cost around $75 per month, that is a huge jump to the reported cost of £400 per month. Bending Spoons says fewer than 10% of paying customers are impacted.

Will It Affect You

If you pay for any Vimeo plan, besides Enterprise, this will almost certainly impact you in some way come your next renewal date. How much will depend on 3 things:

  1. Which plan you are on.
  2. How much you embed your Vimeo hosted videos.
  3. If Vimeo classes you as a business (which it likely will, because you likely are).

Take a few minutes to check the following:

  1. Find out your renewal date – Log in to your Vimeo account, and navigate to the billing page in the Account Settings area. This shows you your current plan and when it will renew.
  2. Search your inbox – For emails from Vimeo about plan changes. Don’t forget to check spam, deleted, and any old shared admin addresses. In many cases these notices will be sent to whoever set the account up however many years ago, not the person managing the website now.
  3. Check your managed storage use – Add up the size of every video that is embedded on your website or set to private. If it’s over 50GB, Creator won’t cover it, and if it’s over 300GB, nor will Core.
  4. Are you a business user – If the account is used by or for your company, expect to be offered Studio rather than an individual plan.
  5. Act before the renewal date – Vimeo lets you change or cancel any time before renewal, with the change taking effect at the end of the current billing cycle.

If your renewal has already gone through at a higher price you didn’t expect, contact Vimeo support promptly, but some users have reported difficulties getting refunds, so I wouldn’t rely on it.

What Happens To The Videos On Your Website?

This is where the changes hit business websites hardest. Your embedded videos depend on the plan behind them. Vimeo says videos aren’t deleted when your plan changes, but that doesn’t guarantee that they’ll keep playing on your website.

  • Over your managed storage limit – On Creator and Core, once your embeddable and private videos pass 50GB or 300GB, new uploads can’t be embedded or made private.
  • Cancelling or dropping to Free – Free includes just 3GB of managed storage. One Australian retailer found nine videos embedded on its course page had stopped working after a downgrade, leaving blank boxes where the players had been.
  • Going over the bandwidth limit – If an account exceeds 2TB a month twice in 12 months, or 10TB once, Vimeo contacts you about upgrading. Ignore it and your videos can stop playing wherever they’re embedded.

A broken video on a landing page or product page is more than just a cosmetic issue. It is a user experience problem, can damage trust, hurt conversions, and leave dead embeds which users and search engines can find.

Before you downgrade or cancel, download you original files. Keep master copies somewhere you control them, so moving platforms later is just a case of re-uploading, rather than a mad scramble to try and find or rip the files.

The Best Vimeo Alternatives For Business Websites

We at Impact love Vimeo and have recommended it to clients for many, many years. The biggest reason was the control over the media player. Not showing adverts or recommended videos at the end created a more brand-focused corporate video rather than everything that comes with YouTube.

Another very attractive feature of Vimeo was the fact that so many tools adopt it, meaning that you can embed a link which will embed the video player. This is not the case in many other platforms, and that’s the biggest drawback that’s going to cause businesses problems as they look to replace their Vimeo videos.

So this, in our eyes, is what we’d be looking for in terms of an alternative. However, being that this article is about pricing, pricing will be a big part of the decision-making process.

For most small and medium businesses, pay as you go solutions will likely cost a fraction of Vimeos new pricing. The right choice depends on how much video you host, how many people watch it, and whether you need added features like lead capture.

PlatformBest ForPricing (USD)Watch Out For
Bunny StreamMost business websites wanting ad-free, fast video at low cost.Pay as you go. Storage from $0.01 per GB a month, delivery from $0.005 per GB, free encoding and player, $1 monthly minimum.Usage-based bills need monitoring, and has fewer marketing tools out of the box.
Cloudflare StreamSites already on Cloudflare, or libraries of short videos.$5 per 1,000 minutes stored, $1 per 1,000 minutes delivered, no bandwidth fees.Priced by minutes, not file size. Has a more developer-focused setup. May require development updates to implement the player.
SproutVideoBusinesses wanting a like-for-like Vimeo replacement with a fixed monthly fee.Seed $10 per month (100GB), Sprout $35 per month (350GB), Tree $75 per month (1TB), Forest $295 per month (2TB). Allowance covers storage and bandwidth combined.Overage charged per GB (from $0.25 per GB on Seed). No free plan, only a trial. May require development updates to implement the player.
WistiaB2B marketing teams needing lead capture and analytics.Free (25GB storage, 200GB bandwidth). Business $79/month billed annually (250GB, 1TB bandwidth). Also restructured its pricing in March 2026, with bandwidth overages billed automatically.
YouTubePublic brand content where reach matters more than control.Free.Ads, related videos and YouTube branding on your site, so not suitable for private or gated content.
Self-Hosting In WordPressVery short clips, such as background loops.Included in hosting.Slows your site, eats server bandwidth, no adaptive streaming, so rarely worth it. Certainly not recommended.

If you’re on WordPress, a player plugin can sit on top of a host like Cloudflare or Bunny Stream, giving you a branded, privacy friendly player, without changing how editors add videos to pages.

As a rough guide, a business with 500GB of embedded video and 50GB of monthly viewing, would pay around $5 to $6 a month on Bunny Stream, compared to $70 a month on Vimeo Professional (the cheapest individual plan with more than 300GB of managed storage).

A client of ours recently chose the Cloudflare Stream option. We have needed to make some development updates to their website to accommodate the Cloudflare stream links, to make them easier to embed for the client within their setup.

How To Move Away From Vimeo Without Breaking Your Website

If your website uses a custom theme and is built using Advanced Custom Fields or ACF Pro, it will use certain fields that will call video links, which will display the Vimeo embedded player. With the options listed above, the only player that is likely to work in the same way as pasting a Vimeo link would be YouTube.

The other video platforms would all need testing to ensure that they could be pulled through in the same way.

Many of the platforms above may not carry through their own player. You may have to utilise a dedicated video player to brand and display your videos. We usually utilise Plyr in this scenario.

However, the key critical takeaway from this article is that, before you look to choose a provider, speak to your web agency to make sure that your chosen supplier is compatible with your website.

They will be able to tell you what steps need to take place for that specific platform to embed videos on your site, as it won’t, no doubt, be the same approach as Vimeo and YouTube.

Tips for Safe Migration

The safest migration is done before your renewal date, with your Vimeo account still active so nothing breaks mid switch.

  1. Speak to your web agency – Once you’ve shortlisted your preferred video hosting provider, ask your agency if their links are going to be compatible with your website in the areas where it is used. Be prepared that testing might need to take place with the video platform links to ensure that they are, in fact, compatible before further work is carried out.
  2. Audit your embeds – List every page, post, or template that uses a Vimeo embed. On WordPress, a database search for ‘player.vimeo.com’ and ‘vimeo.com/’ should catch most of them. Your web developers should be able to run this search for you with ease.
  3. Download your originals – Export the highest-quality source files from Vimeo, not compressed copies. Store them somewhere where you will always have access to them.
  4. Upload to your new host – Recreate any captions, thumbnails or chapters. Choose the correct privacy settings.
  5. Swap the embeds page by page – Test playback on desktop and mobile as you go.
  6. Update video SEO – Refresh any video schema markup and any video sitemaps, so search engines can index the new URLs.
  7. Downgrade or cancel Vimeo last – Only once every embed has been replaced and checked.

Not Sure What To Do?

Vimeo’s changes are rolling out account by account, so the worst outcome is finding out from your accounts team or drastic increases or worse a blank video on your homepage. Check your renewal date this week.

We’re not saying that Vimeo is a bad platform to be on. It is one of the best video platforms around. However it is the price increase that has motivated us to write this article.

For some businesses with lots of videos, Vimeo will be the best platform for you, and seeing that price increase won’t be a burden. Yet, for many B2B businesses that will have maybe 5 to 10 videos max, the price increase won’t be cost-effective for them.

If you’re a client and would like some assistance in choosing or migrating then speak to your account manager who can provide some options for you.
