Every festive season, we pause website updates to keep your site stable during peak trading. Find out what a code freeze means for your business and when deployments resume.
Every year as the festive season approaches, Impact implements a code freeze to maintain stability during the busy Christmas period, and allow clients to worry less. We want to be transparent about why we pause deployments during this time and what it means for you.
Pre-Xmas Launch Cut Off Project Date: 3rd November 2025
Last Deployment Push Date: 10th December 2025
This is our cut off for projects that need to be live before the code freeze.
Not all projects will be possible for a pre-Christmas launch. These will be reviewed, but it means that we cannot guarantee that projects signed off after the cutoff date will go live before the code freeze comes into action.
If you’ve read about the “last push date” it has nothing to do with pregnancy! This date is the very last date we will push any website updates live. This applies to all feature requests but does not include emergency support fixes, which we’ll continue to provide throughout the freeze period.
A code freeze is a deliberate pause on pushing new code changes to live websites and applications. During this time, we focus on maintaining existing websites, rather than introducing new features or updates. Think of it like putting your website into stability mode. We’re keeping everything running smoothly rather than making changes that could cause unexpected issues.
Nobody wants to get downtime emails or have bugs arise when they’re enjoying the well deserved time off, especially ones that could have been avoided!
Holiday coverage challenges – Impact has always closed for the festive period. Although we do have team members available to answer support tickets reported during this time. A code freeze means we’re not introducing unnecessary risk when our response capacity is limited.
Your peak trading period – For many of our clients, December and early January are critical business months. The last thing your customers need is a website update causing problems during your busiest season. By keeping changes to a minimum, we protect your operations when it matters most.
Fewer emergency fixes needed – New deployments occasionally uncover unexpected issues. Rather than rushing to fix problems while teams are stretched thin, we maintain stability and save updates for when we can properly support them.
Testing and planning – The code freeze gives us time to thoroughly test , plan our January deployments carefully, and ensure we’re bringing fresh features and improvements to you with full team capacity behind them.
During the freeze period, we’ll continue to provide full support for any critical issues or security concerns. Routine maintenance, bug fixes, and essential updates will still happen. What pauses is the introduction of new features and non-critical changes.
If you’ve requested a new feature or website update, we’ll schedule it for deployment once the freeze lifts in January, when we can give it the attention it deserves.
Once we return to normal operations, your development roadmap resumes with full momentum. We’ll have a fully rested and energised team, ready to deliver the updates and improvements you’ve been planning.
We appreciate your understanding as we balance stability, safety, and team wellbeing during the holiday season. If you have any questions about how the freeze affects your specific projects, do get in touch.
Here’s to keeping your website running smoothly this Christmas.
