Can you dance? I certainly cannot!
Well, standing in a crowd listening to house music with my disco arm going up and down apparently is not really dancing.
Nor is the side step clap that you do at New Year’s Eve parties, apparently that’s ‘Dad dancing.’
So I’ve entered a charity version of Strictly Come Dancing to raise money for St. Luke’s Hospice Basildon & Thurrock with my patient dance pro teacher (Nikita) having the task to teach this old dog some new tricks.
Yesterday was my first lesson in which I am trying to learn the Foxtrot (see video progress).
I cannot believe how many things there are to remember, let alone dancing with a partner, making sure your frame is correct, your head in the right position and to actually follow the music.
It is very challenging. However, in March along with 9 other couples, I will be taking to the dancefloor to win over votes of the judges to raise even more money for the charity.
The more money I raise the more votes I will get on the night, so i’m looking for any help I can.
I pledge to share my progress so you can see where your donations are going and how it is helping.
We’re practicing twice a week (least until I can learn some basics).
Venue
The Brentwood Centre, The Brentwood Centre.
Date
Saturday 16th March 2024 at 6:30PM.
Tickets
Tickets if you want to attend and watch are £22 and can be purchased via the ticket website here.
St Luke’s is a local charity close to where I live in Essex and support lots of people in so many ways, they personally supported Crystal, Martin and my father before he died and I want to help support them, whilst also picking up a new life skill.
We have to all learn 2 x couple dances and a group dance together.
If you’re a Strictly follower, my dances are Foxtrot and Pasodoble – I’m told both are not easy.
