More car insurance polices were purchased online last year, according to new figures.
Data from digital research firm comScore, based on a US audience, revealed an increase in quotes submitted and purchasing price plans via the internet, which may interest companies looking to utilise SEO marketing services.
In total, policies bought rose by 22 per cent with a record 2.8 million in web sales during 2009, while consumers submitted 38.8 million requests for quotes in the same period.
Susan Engleson, director at comScore, indicated that it was a "robust" period for the industry, especially against the backdrop of an American economy in "deep recession" throughout much of that year.
"Consumers looked for opportunities to cut costs and shopping around for auto insurance offered one way of doing that," she added.
This follows promising data, released last week, for car manufacturers looking for profits via internet transactions, with searches up significantly from potential web customers.
