How Does Website Content Improve SEO?

Content is an essential part of any website. It provides visitors with vital information, encourages them to navigate through the site (preferably to your major revenue pages) and engages with them. However, content also provides search engines with vital details regarding a website’s relevance to certain phrases.

Search engines all have their own unique complex algorithm, which manages their ranking system. Within this algorithm are numerous contributing factors, all of which are taken into account and used to create SERPs that will accurately reflect a user’s search term. One of the most important ranking factors is the content of your website.

A lot of information is derived from what you write. Search engine crawlers, such as the Googlebot, will scan a website for clues about what it is that you’re offering. The more you are able to tell them and the greater the focus of your copy, the better your chance of achieving a decent ranking within their pages.

Keywords are a vital part of the SEO aspect of your content. You should invest some time in researching terms that best describe what your target audience are looking for, preferably without a prohibitive competition rate from other websites in your field of business. By using these clearly defined words and phrases in moderation on each page, you can vastly improve your chances of ranking well for related searches.

Whilst SEO is of course hugely important, readability for your visitors ought to be your primary concern. Having a fully optimised website that offers little or no engagement, provides minimal information and is truncated throughout will do nothing for you. So instead you have to write for human eyes, not just for Google.

By having content on each and every page you are ensuring that search engine spiders have plenty of information to digest and excuse enough to keep crawling the site. It’s not about writing thousands of words for all pages, it ought to be about providing an appropriate level of information right throughout a website. Content is as intrinsic to SEO as it is to your website’s visitors; in short it is an essential function within an essential process.
